Checking Blood Pressure

Not to long ago we played with the stethoscope and blood pressure readings. We tried this for the first time with a partner to check their blood pressure and how it works. I did have a little bit of a hard time to try and figure out how to use the "old" fashion pumps.. but I finally figured it out! I had to learn about a lub and a dub of the heart beat... we have two beats for the heart. The first beat is called the "Lub" and the second one is called the "Dub." So when you put this together the heart beat is called the Lub Dub. In order to get a reading, you had to pump it til you got 160. This was a little bit confusing for me at first, but after a couple of tries, I got the hang of it!! (:

More Mitosis.

When we did the fun experiment of getting different colored balls with at least 5-10 balls and a partner. One being the mom and the other being the dad!!  This is going to show you how the chromosomes interact with each other. Well you get two different colors with the same amount of balls. Then you mix them together to see hoe parents can pass chromosomes to their daughter(s) or son(s).  Everyone in the class had different kinds of patterns and it looked really cool :) Well anyways, I found some pictures on the Internet of a chromosome being passed on the to a daughter/son from a parent.  Each phase is included as chromosomes are separated and inherited.

Skeleton Labeling Contest!

I had a lot of fun with this contest, and studied one part of the skull- anterior view! This was a little bit of a challenge, more than I expected it to be. But I did it :) I was extremely nervous when trying to label this skull (my sticky notes were not sticking!) But oh well...
